Art exam

The final art exam a couple of years ago didn't give us a great choice. There were five options of what to base our project on, but there were so many overlapping or repeat topics, there was actually not much choice at all. I picked buildings because I'd never really drawn them before, and all the other topics were boring.

The reason I don't really draw buildings is because I draw messy and imprecise. As you can see from the drawings and paintings below, I'm really terrible at getting lines straight or parallel or convincingly curved. It was good enough for the exam - let's face it, you don't need to be Da Vinci to get an A* in GCSE art - but it's not typical of the crap I normally draw.

Maybe you'll recognise Hyrule Castle from Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Rivendell from Lord of the Rings. And look, there's a Baggins!

It was my friend O's birthday this week. She likes cows and she likes Moomins, so I drew her this. I haven't even known her for two years but she's such an awesome person and I'm really glad I met her.

In fact, I've been horribly, slushily, emotionally full of... emotions all week. Today before rehearsal the orchestra manager was talking about reauditions and I almost cried right there, surrounded by people. I don't cry in public. Because whether I get into dental school or not, I won't have time for this orchestra any more, and it's been the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life, and could very well be the pinnacle of my music hobby. I've only been in it two years and I barely know anyone there, but I'm going to miss it a lot.

Cat shoes

There's this little tabby cat that comes to the door of our house now and then. It rubs its face against my hand and my legs and the house's walls, and I can even get it to jump up to headbutt my hand. If there's any meat scraps from dinner, my dad feeds it a little.

...That's the end of my story. I hope you enjoy these cat shoes.

Fake fur

As a voracious meat-eater and lover of leather, I'm not obsessive over animal rights. Yes, I'm a terrible person. But it's just not an issue I've looked into a lot, because it's not particularly relevant to me because normal shops don't sell fur and there's plenty of perfectly lovely fake fur around. And I don't like voicing a strong opinion over something I don't feel informed about. It's actually quite hard to research it because everything written about the fur trade feels like it's immensely biased.

If you want to make me rage, you're better off talking to me about wasting food/energy/time/effort/everything. Consequently I just take a default but passive stance when it comes to fur in fashion, of being against it. I wouldn't buy fur first-hand because I would feel like I were directly funding the fur trade. The waters get muddy when it comes to second-hand fur though. Is it a waste not to use it?

Lace LBD

|| Motel || Oasis || Oasis ||

I don't own a little black dress, but I really like the ones with lace sleeves. I adore the way it looks over bare skin. Here are some of my favourites I found on the internet, at various prices. With lace things, I think you really need to buy it in real life, because it's difficult to tell how good quality lace is on the internet. I recently bought a lace long-sleeved top which could be used for layering purposes to create the effect of a lace LBD, but I'm yet to co-ordinate something with it.

I have orchestra all half term, which will be rewarding, but it is haaard work, especially with an interview in the middle of it. Those of you who are lucky enough to have a break next week, have fun!

Christiiina and Part-Timer

My sister has made Sims of the characters in Steins;Gate and is having lots of fun with them. I'm so jealous because I don't have Sims at home. Christina and Suzuha are my favourite characters, and they have great storylines too, especially Suzuha. When we went to Cornwall in summer I read some of the spin-off manga about Suzuha and they were amazing.

 I drew this ballpoint one in biology class when the teacher decided to waste a lesson or two on presentations. Needless to say, I didn't listen to a word.

"Forcing laughter, faking smiles"

Shirt: mum's wardrobe
Belt: TK Maxx
Skirt: Uniqlo
Tights: Tesco
Socks: Primark
Boots: Rockport, TK Maxx

I purchased what has become my favourite skirt in London when I went to see Wicked, and while I thought it was expensive when I bought it, I don't regret it at all. A lot of the skirts sold in hip young high street shops like New Look, River Island and Topshop are, in my opinion, unwearably short, so to find a skirt that's high-waisted and a decent length was a rare thing.

Today I found a cute qipao by Dorothy Perkins in PDSA for £7, and have realised that the new swag I want to show you is really building up. Because it's winter it's quite difficult to come across days when the light's good enough for photos but I'll get round to everything eventually.

I'm trying to ration myself to one episode of Silent Witness series 16 per week, but it is so, so hard. I wasn't cut out to resist such temptations, you know. Instead I'm off to read a book, which is better for me anyway. Good night!

Melia, heavy armour

Melia on deviantART
I'm really losing track of what arts I've posted here! This is one of my favourite (and neatest) doodles of recent times. Aesthetically, my favourite clothes for Melia is the Heavy Armour, but it has no slots and crap stats so there's no opportunity to wear it in the first playthrough. The end-game armour called Ledios is awesome though, and is the same as Heavy but blue instead of purple.

It's a battle every day for me to keep myself from burying my head, but somehow I am going to make it through these interviews and admissions cycle. Have a great weekend!

Papercraft Vaporeon

My papercraft resolution is to make all of the Eevees, made possible by Tenpepakura's awesomeness. I thought it would get boring making the same basic shape all of the time, but Vaporeon was really different to Espeon because of the fat tail, spines and neck ruff thing. In Diamond my Vaporeon was my tank and surfer and I liked it.

My brother-in-law Cel is obsessed with Eevees, doing whole playthroughs just with Eevee evolutions, so I gave him the Eevee papercraft to do, and he enjoyed it. I feel so influential. I haven't got pictures yet but expect more Pokemon papercraft soon.

Animal hoods

|| Kate R. || Sina C. || Pop C. ||

Animal hoods can so easily look tacky and costumey, but some of it's really in how you wear it. With a decent-quality furry animal hood in a neutral colour like brown or grey, with careful styling it can look adorable in a perfectly dignified way. Pair them with more neutral tones and lots of layers for a cozy winter look. Finish it off with your favourite boots.

P.S. Happy second birthday, blog!
